VG: So how are you guys doing with another Senate Impeachment Trial? Bored, exited, crying, disappointed?
ALICE: Of course, I cried. How can I not to? The whole country cried in sympathy with the senators who described what they had to go through. Our politicians are courageous and strong enough not to cry when our country bombs other countries into democracies. They all exhibit a stiff upper lip, like Madeleine Albright did, who declared that half a million of dead Iraqis are the price for democracy in the Middle East. But when the rioters are hundred feet away from Pence and chase Mitt Romney down the hallway – that’s a real threat and not just to few individuals, but to the Democracy with the capital D. Without our politicians the whole world would collapse like a house of cards. Don’t forget that we are indispensable nation, as the same Albright underscored, and therefore our politicians are indispensable politicians, and Albright's is an indispensable mind. So cry we must. Luckily, when being in charge of Olympics, Romney learned how to run. Otherwise, a real disaster would have happened. And all this because of an irresponsible mean-spirited fool who incited this dangerous riot that shook our and the world democracy to the core. Napoleon, this previous threat to the world democracy, was exiled to some tiny island without any means of communication with the outside world. And that’s what we have to do to Trump. Exile him to Mar-a-Lago and take away his tweet-machine.
HOBBS: Agree with Alice completely. The first week of January should be declared the Crying Week. It should start with the duo representing Trump and Melania singing “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina,” sorry, Washington, to be confronted by the chorus of hundred Senators replying in unison: “You fought the law and the law won.” And then the group of swan-white little House Managers, performing the dance of baby swans chased away by the evil rioter looking like Attila the Hun. This crying week should be ingrained in our consciousness as much as the turkey and pumpkin pie is tied to the Thanksgiving week. And thanks we should give. Especially to the wise and courageous security agencies, who knew every move of Russian Internet trolls, but have no clue of what is going on under their own noses in Washington.
VG: Great idea, Hobbs, but it has to wait, since no public performances are allowed yet. But in the future, I can easily imagine this Democratic Ritual to be performed in every school of the country at the beginning of the Spring Semester. And those who dare not to cry --routinely denounced, fired from their jobs, publicly harassed, humiliated and accused for being anti-Semites, homophobes, racists, and Putin lovers. So I foresee a tremendous growth in “artificial tears industries,” or for those who prefer their tears induced organically – in the onion industry.
ALICE: Can’t believe you two questioning the motives of our courageous and wise politicians. They know very well that climate, world peace, emigration, economy and other minor issues can wait. But what can’t wait, is the threat that Trump and his band of ragamuffins also known as deplorables present to the very foundation of everything that our enlightened elites tried to accomplish in their selfless service to the new world order. Ask any man in London, Washington or even Moscow. There is no alternative to neoliberalism and globalism. And recent pandemic is a great testimony to it. Things should be controlled from the center, and this center – ever since the WWII, has been Washington. And the center of Washington had been the Capitol Building. So no one can threaten it with impunity. And that’s the main message of these Impeachment Proceedings. So if you, Hobbs, want to have an opera celebrating these days of Awe in Washington, the opera should be concluded by the duet of Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, singing, “This land is our land, From California, to New York Island” to be accompanied by the chorus of Obama, Nuland and Hillary, adding, “And from Kiev to New Delhi.”
VG: Are you, Alice, suggesting that there is reason behind these impeachment show trial? To send the message to the world, that the Government is back. That Washington is open for business and that’s the flukes like Trump won’t happen again? And now Europe can sigh the sigh of relief. They don’t need the weatherman to know which way the wind blows. Instead of erratic leader like Trump, whom Europeans despised, they now have great and enlightened Democrats who suggest softly and progressively: “Don’t follow the Leader, but watch the parking meters,” –as all the parking meters point toward Washington.
HOBBS: What gives you both the conviction that Biden and his crew know anything? The dude can’t find the way out of his basement yet, and you think that he is ready to rule the world. Same applies to his politicians, who were so disconnected from events in their own city, let alone the world, that they kept on debating minor issues in the Capitol, until they hear the rioters knocking at the doors, which apparently made a lot of them pee in their pants.
ALICE: You guys still miss the point. Trump is not meant to be defeated. He is meant to be resisted continuously. Only through fighting these threats to our Democracy continuously-- be they witches of Salem, or anarchists, Communists, Russians, Trump, or QAnon fascists-- we can preserve our society and our way of life. And we’ll continue fighting them, no matter how many witch-trials or impeachment hearings it takes. Even Orwell understood that.
